Fire Department to Host “Truck or Treat” Event October 21

The Midland Fire Department will host the fourth annual “Truck or Treat” Halloween carnival on Saturday, October 21st from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. The event will take place at Central Fire Station, located at 1500 W. Wall Street, and is free to attend.

Children are invited to trick or treat in the station’s safe and festive environment, as well as play games and learn about fire safety and ways to stay healthy. Attendees are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.

The free event features a bean bag toss, football throw, cupcake walk, haunted house, jumper, and even fire hose practice; but the benefit to the community extends beyond candy.

Attendees will have the opportunity to receive CPR training, stroke recognition education, complete child ID kits, and witness a simulated vehicle rescue operation. Last year, the event reached approximately 10,000 attendees with fire safety and life-saving techniques. The Fire Department expects at least as many attendees this year.

“An event of this size would not be possible without the support of our volunteers,” shared Fire Captain Aaron Cox. “We are so grateful to our community partners like the Abell-Hanger Foundation and many others.” In 2016, over 40 organizations volunteered to run games and booths, and over 2,000 pounds of candy were distributed.

The event will span seven blocks on W. Texas Avenue from F Street to M Street. Residents are advised to utilize alternate routes along Wall and Illinois Streets on October 21st  from 5:00 AM – 3:00 PM to avoid delays.
