Fire Marshal Retires After 30 Years


David M. Hickman, Fire Marshal for the Midland Fire Department, will be retiring on January 12, 2018 after 30 years of service with the Department.

Hickman began his career with the Big Lake and Reagan County Volunteer Fire Department before moving to Midland as a career Fire Fighter in 1988. He was promoted to Driver in 1991, Fire Inspector in 1999, and Fire Marshal in 2013.

Hickman was known to many young Midlanders as “Fireman Dave”, for his dedication to fire safety and prevention programs in schools.

Hickman holds Master Certifications as Arson Investigator, Inspector, Hazardous Materials Technician, Peace Officer, ARFF and Fire Fighter. He also holds certificates as Fire Officer I and II, and Licensed Paramedic. In 2009 Hickman was named the Midland Fire Department Fire Officer of the Year and is a 6-time recipient of the City of Midland’s Exceeding Expectations Award. Hickman was also an active member of the Midland Sheriff’s Department Mounted Patrol Division.

A retirement party will be held for Fire Marshal Hickman January 12 at 2:00 PM in the Engine Bay of Central Fire Station, 1500 W. Wall Street. The public is invited to attend and help celebrate Hickman’s career.
