UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS TO 2.6% IN APRIL

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The Texas Workforce Commission reported this week that the unemployment rate inside the Midland metropolitan statistical area dropped to 2.6% in April.
The new jobless number is again the lowest in the state, ahead of Amarillo and San Angelo, which both showed rates of 2.7%.
The Commission showed the Midland MSA rate was lower than the 2.9% rate in March and higher than the 2.5% posted in April 2024.
The size of Midland’s civilian labor force also grew in April to 106,400, up from 105,300 in March and 2.8% higher than April 2024 (103,500).
The state average was 3.7% during the month of April, according to the Commission.
