Midland posts lowest unemployment rate in Texas, yearly growth in labor force

MIDLAND AGAIN POSTS LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN TEXAS

(June 20, 2025)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The Texas Workforce Commission reported this week that the unemployment rate inside the Midland metropolitan statistical area moved to 3.0% in May.

The new jobless number was again the lowest in the state, ahead of Amarillo and San Angelo, which both showed rates of 3.1%.

The Commission showed the Midland MSA rate was higher than the 2.6% rate in April and higher than the 2.7% posted in May 2024.

The size of Midland’s civilian labor force also moved in May to 105,800, down from 106,400 in April and up from 103,200 in May 2024 (an increase of 2.5%).

The state average was 4.0% during the month of May, according to the Commission.
