City's sales tax collection in December 12% higher than 2023

FIRST QUARTER SALES TAX COLLECTION IS OVER BUDGET BY $1.42 MILLION

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Sales tax collections were booming across the City of Midland. 

The City reported this week that its collection for December topped $6.11 million, an 8.69% increase over December 2024 and a 12% increase compared to December 2023.

The City also showed this month's sales tax revenue was 19.17% higher than the monthly budget.  The City’s year-to-date actuals are over budget by $1.472 million and 4.08% higher than through the first quarter of fiscal year 2025.

 Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; The December collection is based on October sales. The City of Midland collects a full cent of the 8.25% of sales tax inside the City.
