MPD SWEEPS, SEALS VAUGHN BUILDING
(April 11, 2024)
MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The Midland Police Department worked to clear out and seal the Vaughn Building in downtown Midland on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
MPD’s effort is part of an on-going effort by the City of Midland to keep people from entering and residing in dangerous and dilapidated buildings across the city.
In March, the Midland City Council approved an ordinance that removes hurdles in securing substandard buildings. One expected outcome of the ordinance is the elimination of hotspots for crime. Midland Police have stated that people are unlawfully entering dilapidated buildings, like the Vaughn Building, and are engaging in criminal activity.
On Thursday, Midland Police went into the Vaughn Building and performed a sweep of the structure. The building will be sealed to prevent homeless people and students from being able to enter the structure in the future.
