FIRE DEPARTMENT HANDLES FIRE IN ABANDONED BUILDING IN SOUTH MIDLAND

(Jan. 8, 2025)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- At around 9:15 p.m. Monday (Jan. 6, 2025), Midland Fire Department officials responded to a call of smoke coming out of an abandoned building in the 2700 block of Rankin Highway, near the intersection of Interstate 20 and Rankin Highway.

Fire Department officials worked the fire at the former TMP Truck and Trailers site. It was a quick response, no injuries were reported, and no people were displaced, according to officials.

Fire Department officials reported that the fire appeared to be caused by people living inside, attempting to stay warm, but also stated that the fire remained under investigation.

On Tuesday, Midland Police Department officials investigated the location, and the smell from inside the building was strong enough to cause one official to be sick.
