PERMITMIDLAND PROMISES MORE ACCESSIBLE, RESPONSIVE WEBSITE FOR RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES

(June 17, 2025)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- On June 16, 2025, the City of Midland unveiled PermitMidland, a website sure to make the permit process more accessible, equitable and responsive for residents and others doing business in our community.

PermitMidland is more than just a website — it’s a leap forward in transparency, convenience and accountability for the City of Midland’s Permitting and Development Services.

PermitMidland will allow an online home for those seeking the following:

  • Building permits (commercial and residential), new construction, alternation and repair, detached structures and additions),
  • Electrical permits,
  • Plumbing permits,
  • Mechanical (HVAC) permits,
  • Solar panels.

“For the public, PermitMidland offers a new level of insight into how the City supports growth and development,” said James Rawls, Process Improvement Manager for Development Services. “It’s a way to track how public dollars are being used to meet community needs.”

Midland Mayor Lori Blong stated, “For the past two years, we have placed a significant emphasis on optimizing the customer experience for everything at the City of Midland. We know our residents expect excellence and I am so proud that our team is launching PermitMidland, as our latest of many improved systems for Midlanders. This will improve the flow of information and communication for people seeking to develop in Midland. Whether you are adding on to your home or creating a new commercial development, we believe this streamlined solution will be a dramatic improvement for Midlanders.”

Other opportunities coming later to PermitMidland include water and wasterwater taps, specific use designations, special events, temporary land use, driveway/sidewalk and plats.

“Instead of requiring a trip to City Hall, PermitMidland gives residents, contractors and developers a centralized online platform to submit, review and manage permits from anywhere,” Rawls said. “It allows users to monitor inspection progress, upload documents and handle payments — streamlining processes that used to take days or even weeks into a matter of clicks.

Users of PermitMidland should know the portal can be used to check the status of permits and inspections and to manage payments and receipts online. Kiosks also will be available at the One Stop Shop inside City Hall, 300 N. Loraine St., to help with account setup and to answer questions.

Also, PermitMidland promises the following:

  • that inspections for each permit type will be available as the permit type becomes available,
  • Document uploads can be done in the portal,
  • Instructional Videos will be available to help.
