EUTHANASIA CASES FALL; LIVE RELEASE RATE CLIMBS IN OCTOBER

(Nov. 4, 2025)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Euthanasia cases dropped by one-fourth in October (compared to September), according to the monthly report card from Midland Animal Services.

The drop in euthanasia was one reason for monthly live release rate growth from 73% in September to 79% in October. Last month helped push the yearly live release rate at 75%.

Midland Animal Services reported that not only did adoptions increase from 79 to 97 but there were also 67 animals that were “returned to owner” and 119 transfers. Of the 87 animals euthanized, 25 were for medical reasons and 16 were for behavior. Another 45 animals were euthanized to make room for other animals.

The top partner for transfers was Fix West Texas, which accounted for 62% of all transfers.
