(Jan. 12, 2026)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The number of animals adopted from Midland Animal Services, returned to their owners and transferred to animal support groups nearly tripled those euthanized in December, according to MAS’ monthly record card.

Adoptions reached 95 in December, transfers 57 and animals returned to owner 57, while Animal Services’ officials reported 86 animals euthanized. That helped result in a 72% live release rate for the month.

The statistics also show of the animals euthanized, less than half took place because of a lack of space (31). Reasons for euthanasia included medical (43 or half), quality of life (seven) and behavior (five).

The Midland Animal Services’ report also shows the average length of stay or all animals was less than eight days and no category (dog, puppy, cat or kitten) averaged 10 or more days.
