City of Midland Traffic Alert

Posted on: January 9, 2015

[ARCHIVED] Traffic alerts and lane closures

Winter Weather Reminder:

Drivers are reminded that, even if roadways appear to be mostly clear, isolated patches of ice may exist as overnight temperatures continue to remain below freezing. Bridges and culverts may ice before other roadways, and will thaw more slowly when air temperatures rise. Drivers should expect that any area that appears wet may also contain ice and always exercise appropriate caution.

Loop 250 Overpass at Interstate 20:

An oversized load caused damage to the overpass on Loop 250 at Interstate 20 on Friday, December 5. Southbound and northbound traffic is down to one lane across the bridge.

Lamesa Road Overpass:

TxDOT has installed temporary signals to allow traffic to use the single lane in alternating fashion. It is extremely important that people obey the signal light to prevent crashes. Half of the bridge will be barricaded to prevent use of the section of the overpass that was severely damaged by an oversized load.

Utility Extension Program:
The City’s Contractor is working at various locations:

• Mogford Street between Michigan Street and Louisiana Street: During the project, Mogford Street, Michigan Street, and Louisiana Street may be temporarily closed or reduced to a single lane of traffic.

• Scharbauer Drive east of Lamesa Road: During the project Scharbauer Drive may be closed. East-bound traffic on Scharbauer Drive should plan to detour south to E. Golf Course Road when approaching the Scharbauer Drive and Lamesa Road intersection.
