City of Midland Traffic Alert

[ARCHIVED] Traffic alerts and lane closures

Drainage Improvements:

The City will continue to install valley gutters at the following intersections. Mathis St. & Concho Dr., Belton Pl. & Concho Dr., Spence Dr. & Concho Dr., Spence Dr. & Canadian Ave., and Spence Dr. & Brazos Ave. Traffic may be restricted to one lane at times at these locations and drivers are asked to use caution while in the work zones.


Sidewalk Installation:

Contractors will be installing ADA ramps and sidewalk on Sherwood Drive just east of Holiday Hill Road. Traffic will be maintained throughout the project but drivers are asked to use caution while in the work zone.


COMPASS Project on Terrell Street:

The contractor is currently working on Terrell Street from Gist Avenue to Longview Avenue. Terrell Street is now open to through traffic. Contractor may set up work day lane closures to be able to complete the remaining sidewalk, curb ramps, scupper and embankment.


COMPASS Project on Rhode Island Avenue and South N Street:

The contractor will be setting up barricades on Rhode Island Avenue from South Garfield Street to South L Street and on South N Street from West New Jersey Avenue to West Carter Avenue. In this area, the contractor has begun grading operations and access to businesses may be interrupted during the day.


Beal Parkway Paving Project:

The contractor is working within the newly proposed alignment of Beal Parkway from Audie Court to Blue Haven and Leisure Drive to Thomason Drive. Contractor may set up work day lane closures to be able to demolish and install the remaining sidewalk and curb ramps. Paving operations are scheduled to start soon after.


Briarwood Avenue Paving Project:

The contractor is currently working along Briarwood Avenue from Avalon Drive to Holiday Hill Road. The contractor moved traffic onto the new pavement. Temporary driveways are available to access affected businesses on the north side of Briarwood Avenue.


I-20 Bore Project at Midland Drive:

The contractor will be working at the intersection of the I-20 Frontage Road and Jasmine Drive as well as north I-20 Frontage Road directly across from this intersection. Access to Jasmine Drive may be restricted at times due to construction activity and may include brief, temporary full closures of the road.


Fairgrounds Road Widening Project:

The contractor working for TxDOT on the Fairgrounds Road Widening Project has completed the mainlane paving operations. The roadway is now open to two-way traffic from Loop 250 to the south end of the project. Traffic may encounter a lane closure as sidewalk construction continues. The signal installed at Wadley Avenue was  placed into full operation on Friday, December 9th.


Utility Extension Program on Loop 250 Frontage Road:

The contractor will perform construction along the eastbound Loop 250 frontage road between Tremont Avenue and Henry Koontz Boulevard. There may be temporary lane, road, and intersection closures during construction.


Utility Extension Program on Illinois Avenue:

Illinois Avenue will be closed to all vehicle traffic between Andrews Hwy and L Street from Tuesday, December 27th, through Thursday, December 29th, to allow for replacement of multiple water line crossings. Thru traffic will be detoured to Texas Avenue.


Pedestrian access across Illinois Avenue to the south entrance of Midland Memorial Hospital will remain open, but the vehicle drop-off and parking lot at that entrance will be closed. Patients and visitors should use the parking and drop-off areas at the Hospital’s main entrance on the north side of the building during this time.


Midland Center Utility Work:

The contractor will perform work along Main Street between Ohio Avenue and Wall Street, and along Wall Street from Main Street to Loraine Street. There will be lane, intersection, and road closures during construction.
