Sales tax collection still ahead of FY 2025, budget projection

SALES TAX COLLECTION STILL UP 5.18% OVER LAST YEAR

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Midway through the fiscal year, the City of Midland’s sales tax collection is more than 5% higher than last year. 

The Texas Comptroller showed $35.963 million has been collected through March, a record through the first six months of a fiscal year. Last year, the city reported $34.192 million. 

The City of Midland’s sales tax collection thus far is also $3.694 million higher than the amount budgeted.

Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; March’s collection is based on January sales. The City of Midland collects a full cent of the 8.25% of sales tax inside the City of Midland.
