CITY: MILL AND INLAY PROJECT ON NEELY BEGINS

(April 15, 2024)

MIDLAND, TEXAS - The City of Midland started a maintenance project this week which will result in a much smoother driving surface on Neely Ave. This project will also help to extend the pavement life.

The City of Midland’s annual Mill and Inlay project began this week at Neely Avenue between Midkiff Road and “A” Street.

The following are the phases:

  • Phase 1 from Midkiff Road to Ward Street
  • Phase 2 from Ward Street to Garfield Street;
  • Phase 3 from L Street to Western Street;
  • Phase 4 from Western Street to “A” Street.

Mill and Inlay includes removing the existing distressed pavement and replacing with a new asphalt surface. Furthermore, the City plans to replace the existing 2-inch-thick surface with a new 5-inch-thick asphalt pavement layer. This increased thickness will lead to a longer-lasting and more durable roadway with a smooth driving surface.

Mill and Inlay prevents the City from having to perform full street reconstruction, which is more costly, more invasive and time-consuming. Weather permitting, all phases of the Mill and Inlay Project at Neely Avenue are expected to be completed by the end of May.
