MIDLAND POLICE RESPOND TO FATAL ACCIDENT ON SH 191

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- At 7:52 a.m. Friday (July 12, 2024), Midland Police responded to a major accident in the 8700 block of State Highway 191. 

Midland Police reported that emergency personnel had extracted the driver of a 2016 Chevy Cruz later identified as 73-year-old Tommy Earl Palmer -- and attempted life saving measures. Palmer was then transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he would later be pronounced deceased. 

“Upon initial investigation by the Midland Police Traffic unit, it was determined based on witness’s that for some unknown reason Palmer stopped in the westbound roadway in the 8700 block of State Highway 191,” MPD reported. “The driver and sole occupant of the Peterbilt cement truck collided his front distributer with the Chevy Cruz’s back distributed at a high rate of speed.”

MPD reported that the next of kin has been notified and that the investigation is still on going.
