SECTION OF GARFIELD STREET PROJECT TO OPEN UP

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Ahead of the upcoming school year, the City of Midland is passing along good news about the Garfield Street project.

On Monday, July 29, 2024, the City of Midland will open north and southbound lanes at Garfield Street through Community Lane. This will help those needing access to San Jacinto Junior High when school opens up in August. This will also allow four-way access at the Garfield/Golf Course intersection.

Lane closures will be used for the outside lanes as crews work to complete sidewalks and driveways. Garfield Street south of Community Lane will remain closed as crews work to complete concrete paving.

The City of Midland is taking care of paving by utilizing in-house crews on Garfield Street from Golf Course Road to Cuthbert Avenue as the bidding process came in well over what was budgeted. In fact, the City expects to save millions of dollars by taking the project in-house. Additional lane openings will be announced as progress continues.
