ANIMAL SERVICES TO CHANGE SHELTER SCHEDULE

(March 25, 2024)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The City of Midland will change the days the Midland Animal Shelter is closed to help keep the facility cleaner and to make it easier for residents to check on lost animals.

Currently, the Midland Animal Shelter is closed Sundays and Mondays. At Monday’s Animal Services Advisory Commission meeting, Animal Services Manager Melissa Griffin-Hobson stated that – pending the approval of the City Manager’s Office – the shelter would be closed Sundays and Wednesdays. The schedule change would provide two benefits, she said.

The first benefit is that deep cleaning takes place when the shelter is closed, and the new schedule will allow for the City of Midland to get more out of its deep cleaning efforts by spreading out those days deep cleaning takes place.

Second, the shelter will not be closed on the Monday following the weekend, and that will benefit animals and owners if an animal was picked up over the weekend.

The commission supported the recommendation.

The new schedule is expected to begin on April 1, 2024.
