TWO DIE IN MAJOR COLLISION IN NORTH MIDLAND

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Around 4:15 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2024, Midland Police Department officers responded to a major accident in north Midland.
Midland Police stated that two people died and another person was transported to the hospital after a dump truck in the 7100 block of North State Highway 349 (at the intersection of Craddick Highway and State Highway 349) failed to yield the right of way to a Ford F-350 traveling southbound on State Highway 349.
Midland Police reported that two people in the Ford F-350 - Richard Vela, a 32-year-old from Odessa, and Felipe Avila, a 39-year-old from Odessa – were dead at the scene. Next of kin for the second person has not been notified. The third person in the vehicle was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital. The driver of the truck-tractor, a 33-year-old Midlander, was released without injury at the scene.
The incident, according to Midland Police, is ongoing.
