Census Bureau reports population in Midland tops 143,000

POPULATION INCREASES 8.1% IN MIDLAND SINCE 2020

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The Census Bureau reported this week that the estimated population inside the city of Midland has increased 8.1% since the April 1, 2020, when the base population was established.

The Bureau estimates a population of 143,687 in 2024 inside the city of Midland (compared to the 132,874 in 2020). Midland’s 8.1% increase during that time is the greatest of any larger metropolitan city in the region.

Other population estimates include:

  • Lubbock, 272,086 in 2024 (257,206 in 2020)
  • Amarillo, 203,729 in 2024 (200,414 in 2020)
  • Abilene 130,501 in 2024 (125,004 in 2020)
  • Odessa, 119,748 in 2024 (114,451 in 2020)
  • San Angelo, 100,159 in 2024 (99,903 in 2020)
