CITY REMAINS COMMITTED TO ENSURING MIDLAND INTERNATIONAL AIR & SPACE PORT CONTINUES TO THRIVE

(Aug. 25, 2025)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Delta’s announcement that it will discontinue air service between Midland and Austin on Nov. 8, 2025, does not take away from the fact that Midland International Air & Space Port is on pace for another record year.

The number of passengers using airline service out of Midland will set another record for the second-straight fiscal year, and City of Midland leaders are investing tens of millions of dollars in Airport funds into customer service improvements, including a terminal expansion project.

The City of Midland appreciates Delta for its service to Austin — especially during the Legislative session — and understands the airline’s decision to seek broader network planning and demand patterns. Midlanders will still enjoy non-stop service to Austin (through Southwest Airlines), along with non-stop flights to Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Denver and Phoenix. The City of Midland also will continue to explore broader opportunities to strengthen MAF’s connectivity to key destinations.

Councilwoman Robin Poole, the City Council’s liaison to the Airports Department, stated, “While I am disappointed to learn that Delta Airlines will no longer be servicing our airport, it does not diminish our commitment to ensuring Midland International Air & Space Port continues to thrive and meet the needs of our residents and those traveling through the Permian Basin.

“Midlanders can expect us to remain focused on supporting improvements and expansion efforts that will strengthen our airport’s role as a vital hub for our community and our region. Air service is essential, and I will continue working alongside my colleagues, city staff, and our partners to bring more options and better connections to Midland.”
