The Federal Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, or familial status. This discrimination may take the form of, but is not limited to:
- Refusal to negotiate for housing.
- Making housing unavailable.
- Denying a dwelling or setting different terms
- Imposing different conditions or privileges for the sale or rental of a dwelling

Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice
The City of Midland has prepared an Analysis of Impediments (AI) to Fair Housing Choice, which was approved by the Midland City Council on October 12, 2010. Additionally, the City's Community Development Office has established a local fair housing partnership, with the objectives of education and promotion of fair housing.
