Retirement 

When you are ready to retire from the City of Midland, there are a few things that you will want to do to get the process started:

  1. Call the Texas Municipal Retirement System or TMRS at 1.800.924.8677 to request your personalized retirement estimate. Remember, to be eligible to retire your TMRS account, you need to have five (5) years of service at age 60 or 20 years of service at any age.
  2. Call the Benefits office at 432-685-7416 to schedule your retirement appointment.
  3. Provide your department with your retirement date. This should be done in writing, and you should plan to give at least two weeks' notice.
  4. Reach out to your 457(b) representative if you contribute to one of the City's 457(b) (Deferred Compensation) plans.

Leaves of Absence

Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993
FMLA provides up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave to “eligible” employees for certain family and medical reasons. You are eligible if you have worked for the City of Midland for at least 12 months and worked for 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months

Reasons for Taking Leave:

  • To care for your child after birth, or placement for adoption or foster care
  • To care for your spouse, son, daughter or parent who has a serious health condition
  • For a serious health condition that makes you unable to perform your job
  • In situations of qualifying exigency to be with a employee's spouse, parent or child if said person is an active service member or has an impending call to active duty in support of a contingency operation
  • For the care of an injured service member if the service member is the employee's spouse, child, parent, or "next of kin." FMLA taken for this reason includes an entitlement of up to 26 weeks in a 12-month period.
