Student Competitions

The City of Midland and Midland County invite students to join our Vision Zero mission to make our streets safer for everyone. Promote safety, awareness, and creativity to help end traffic deaths and serious injuries.

Submissions & Deadlines

Submissions: opens February 1, 2026

Student Competitions

2-D Arts Competition

Grades K – 6th

Draw your best road safety artwork! Create original art that promotes traffic, pedestrian, or road safety.

Rules

  • Artwork must be original and promote traffic, pedestrian, or road safety
  • Artwork size: 8.5 x 11 inches (letter size)
  • Any art medium as long as it remains flat
  • Must be school appropriate
  • Include name, grade, and school info on the back
  • No tracing or use of AI

Prizes

One winner per grade level (K–6th) receives:

  • FREE bowling game for you and two friends at Lucky Strike
  • Artwork showcased in the Vision Zero 2026 Implementation Progress Report
  • Artwork displayed at City Hall

Video Challenge

Grades 7th – 12th

Think you can make Midland's streets safer? Create a short video that promotes traffic, pedestrian, or road safety and supports Vision Zero.

Rules

  • Video must be original and focus on a safety message (slowing down, avoiding distractions, using crosswalks, watching for pedestrians, etc.)
  • Must be done in a safe manner and follow all laws
  • Videos must be no longer than 1 minute
  • Content must include appropriate language, imagery, and music
  • Entries can be individual or group projects

Prizes

Sponsored by Midland Rotary

1st Place: $750
2nd Place: $500
3rd Place: $300

Cash prizes awarded per entry, not per participant. 1st place winner featured at City Council meeting and on Vision Zero website.
