MIDLAND POLICE DETAINS DRIVER AFTER HIT-AND-RUN LEAVES JUVENILE IN CRITICAL CONDITION

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- On Thursday, February 8, 2024, at approximately 4:35 pm, officers with the Midland Police Department detained a driver after the man struck a juvenile with a truck during a hit-and-run, leaving the juvenile in critical condition.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a black truck struck the juvenile who was attempting to cross the road after leaving school in the 1900 block of South Lamesa Road. An officer then located and detained the driver, 41-year-old Rogelio Ortiz.
The juvenile was air-lifted to Lubbock in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
