MPD: WEATHERFORD WOMAN DIES IN ATV ACCIDENT
(Oct. 16, 2024)
MIDLAND, TEXAS -- At 11:47 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, Midland Police and Fire responded to ATV accident in northern Midland that killed a Weatherford woman.
Midland Police reported that two people were traveling on a Polaris 1000 ATV four-wheeler on a utility access road just south of 6600 Shawnee.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver and rear passenger were traveling westbound when the road was split by a dirt berm and veered to the right, Midland Police reported. The driver was traveling at an unsafe speed and was unable to safely navigate the small turn, according to police, and as a result, the ATV hit the berm, and the driver lost control.
MPD also reported that both the driver and passenger were thrown from the ATV as it began to roll.
“Neither occupant was wearing a helmet,” MPD reported. “(The driver, 31-year-old Samuel Richard Merrill) was transported for injuries sustained in the rollover. (42-year-old Emelda Moreno) came to rest approximately 100 feet west of the initial impact point and was pronounced deceased on scene).”
No arrests took place, and the investigation is ongoing.
