FORMER MAYOR CARROLL THOMAS PASSES AWAY

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Former Midland Mayor Carroll Thomas passed away this weekend, according to the family. He was 81.
Thomas is a former member of the City of Midland’s Planning and Zoning Commission, serving as its chairman in 1975. Thomas was elected to the Midland City Council in 1975, serving as mayor pro-tem from 1978 to 1979.
In 1986, Thomas became the city’s 24th mayor since 1907. He served in that role from 1986 to 1992. During Thomas’ time as mayor, the City of Midland built a new central fire station, added two floors to City Hall, acquired a new police headquarters and led the council to research and design a new air terminal building.
Thomas was a 1956 graduate of Midland High, a 1961 graduate of Texas Tech and an exploration and production geologist.
Services will be held at Stonegate Fellowship at 2 p.m. on March 29.
The City of Midland sends its condolences to Thomas’ wife Georgia, their two children and the rest of Thomas’ family.
