Midland City Councilman John B. Love, III has been elected President of the Texas Municipal League (TML).
TML is the premier association for city governments in Texas, and takes an active role advancing a pro-cities legislative agenda at the State and Federal levels. The organization represents 1,158 cities and 16,000 mayors, councilmembers, and city officials in Texas and is guided by a governing board composed of elected and appointed officials from member cities.
“I am honored to serve as President and am excited about bringing the energy of Midland to this state-wide organization,” said Love. As President, Councilman Love holds a powerful position to guide policy-making in Austin. His areas of focus for the upcoming year include unfunded mandates, rollback rate caps, and preemption of city ordinances. Even after his term as President concludes, Love will remain a board member for as long as he continues to serve as an elected official.
Love’s term runs from October 12, 2018 – October 11, 2019. He was first elected to represent District 2 on Midland City Council in 2012, and was re-elected in 2015. Only one other Midland city official has served as TML president: Mayor Hank Avery in 1964-1965.
