[ARCHIVED] Victim in Thursday Shooting Pronounced Deceased

A Midland man died late Thursday evening from a gunshot wound he suffered in a morning shooting.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to a shots fired call at approximately 8:39 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of East Cowden Avenue, where they found Alfred Lee Hemphill, 54, inside his residence with a gunshot wound to the head. Hemphill was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in critical condition and was later taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he died from his injuries at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police continue to search for the suspect involved in the incident, who is described as a 5-foot-11 black male weighing approximately 175 pounds. He was said to be wearing a gray hoodie at the time of the incident, with light gray pants. Witnesses said that the suspect was dropped off at the scene by the driver of a black car with a rear spoiler, then fled the scene on foot.

The investigation continues and next of kin has been notified.
