A Midland man died late Thursday evening from a gunshot wound he suffered in a morning shooting.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to a shots fired call at approximately 8:39 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of West Cowden Avenue, where they found Alfred Lee Hemphill, 54, inside his residence with a gunshot wound to the head. Hemphill was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in critical condition and was later taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he died from his injuries at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

He was said to be wearing a gray hoodie at the time of the incident, with light gray pants.
