The City of Midland has confirmed that a City employee was killed in a fatal accident on Tuesday.
Sanitation Driver David Bailey, 46, was pronounced deceased on scene after a two-vehicle accident took place at approximately noon on Tuesday near East Loop 250 and Interstate 20 in Midland County. Department of Public Safety officials said that Bailey was traveling southbound on East Loop 250 when his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler that was proceeding westbound after stopping at a stop sign on the north service road of Interstate 20. The Department of Public Safety is the investigating agency on the accident, and next of kin has been notified.
At the time of the accident, Bailey was driving a garbage truck owned by a third party in order to test it for the City’s solid waste department. He had been employed at the City of Midland since December 2011.
“Every fatal accident is a tragedy, and this one hits especially close to home,” said City Manager Courtney Sharp. “David is remembered as a dependable, hard-working employee who was always high-spirited, and he will be greatly missed by his fellow co-workers and colleagues. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”
