The City of Midland will hold a public meeting on Thursday, July 10 to discuss the proposed improvements to Fairgrounds Road from Pecan Avenue to Loop 250.
The public meeting will be held in an open house format from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the MLK Jr. Community Center (2300 Butternut Lane).
The proposed project would widen Fairgrounds Road from two lanes to five lanes for a distance of approximately one mile from Pecan Avenue to Loop 250. The proposed project would provide a continuous five-lane roadway from Business Interstate 20 to Loop 250.
The proposed project is needed to address existing traffic congestion and increasing traffic volumes due to commercial and residential development along Fairgrounds Road. The project will also address the lack of pedestrian access between neighborhoods and parks along the roadway.
The purpose of this project is to improve traffic circulation by providing a continuous five-lane operation between BI 20 and Loop 250, and to enhance pedestrian access by providing a pedestrian path along a portion of the roadway.
Maps and drawings reflecting the proposed build alternative will be displayed at the public meeting. This and other information about the proposed project will be available beginning July 8 for public inspection at the City of Midland's Engineering Office, which is located on the fifth floor of City Hall (300 North Loraine).
Written comments on the project can also be submitted for inclusion in the public meeting record by 5 p.m. on July 24 to Engineering Services Director Jose Ortiz, City of Midland, P.O. Box 1152, Midland, TX 79702.
Individuals interested in attending the public meeting who have special communication needs or require physical accommodations are encouraged to contact Shellie Mitchell at 432-685-7287 at least three working days prior to the public meeting. The City will make every reasonable effort to accommodate these needs.###
