[ARCHIVED] National Night Out plans announced for Aug. 5

This year's National Night Out will kick off at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Taylor Park (1401 Carter Avenue) with an appearance by a special guest.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn will be the main speaker for the National Night kick-off event, which will take place inside the Boys & Girls Club gym at the park.

The Midland Police Department asks the community to participate in National Night Out by locking their doors, turning on outside lights and spending the evening outside with neighbors and public safety employees. Many neighborhoods throughout Midland will host a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, visits from the police, flashlight walks and more.

National Night Out is a nationwide crime prevention event designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back against crime.
