[ARCHIVED] Midland police invite residents to "Coffee with a Cop"

Coffee with a Cop

Community members are invited to join their neighbors and local police officers for coffee and conversation from 7-9 a.m. on Sept. 16 at the Starbucks near H-E-B (3203 N. Midkiff Rd.).

This will be the Midland Police Department's third "Coffee with a Cop." The program allows citizens and police to come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members, one cup of coffee at a time.

The majority of contact law enforcement has with the public happens during emergencies or emotional situations. These situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community. "Coffee with a Cop" breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

"Coffee with a Cop" is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

For more information, the public is asked to call MPD Community Relations at 432-685-7582.
