Midland is a finalist in four categories of the 2014 Texas Downtown Association (TDA) Presidents Awards Program. Since 1998, the Awards Program has recognized more than 150 projects, events and people that make a difference in Texas downtowns. The categories are divided based on populations of over and under 50,000 inhabitants.
Basin Burger House is a finalist in the Best Renovation/Rehabilitation category that recognizes excellence in rehabilitation (i.e., renovation or remodeling) of interior or exterior of an existing building. The other finalists in this category are The Union on Eighth in Georgetown; TyKu Wine Bar and Lounge in Killeen; and The Brass Tap in Round Rock.
The Midland Tower Building is a finalist in the Best Restoration category that recognizes excellence in restoration of interior or exterior of an existing building. Rather than maintaining and preserving a building as it has evolved over time, the expressed goal of restoration is to make the building appear as it did at a particular—and most significant—time in its history. There are no other finalists in the over 50,000 population sub-category.
Star Spangled Salute is a finalist in the Best Promotional Event category that recognizes excellence in creation and execution of downtown or commercial district promotional event, including festivals. The other finalist in the category is MonuMetal of Bryan.
The last finalist is the Downtown Midland Management District in the Best Downtown Partner category that recognizes a local private or civic organization that positively impacts the community and actively contributes to the revitalization efforts of the downtown or commercial district. The other finalist in this category is GSATi of Denton.
Winners will be announced on November 6 at the Presidents Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with the 2014 Texas Downtown Development and Revitalization Conference in Granbury.
