[ARCHIVED] One man killed, another injured in industrial accident

A Midland man was killed and another man was injured Wednesday morning following an industrial accident.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded at approximately 7:45 a.m. Wednesday to a construction site at 2301 W. Wall St. and found Fabian Garduno-Martinez, 26, with life-threatening injuries. Garduno-Martinez was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital where he was later declared deceased. Another employee who was with Garduno-Martinez received minor injuries and was transported to the hospital via a private vehicle.

An investigation into the accident revealed the two men were demolishing a brick wall with sledge hammers while standing on a scissor lift. The brick wall collapsed, causing the lift to fall. At that time, Garduno-Martinez fell out of the lift and hit his head on the ground.

An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death. Next of kin has been notified and the investigation continues.
