[ARCHIVED] High schoolers asked to submit videos about texting while driving

To help spread the word about the dangers of texting while driving, the Midland Municipal Court is holding a video contest for high school students.

The contest starts the day the City of Midland’s new anti-texting and driving ordinance comes into effect, Oct. 1, and lasts through Oct. 23. All kids in seventh through 12th grades are invited to record and submit a one- to two-minute video that addresses the dangers of texting and driving.

Videos ranging from funny to serious are encouraged and must be submitted via a YouTube link to

Teen Court will also grant community service credit to Municipal Court juveniles who submit a video while attending Teen Court.

Participants will have their work recognized during Municipal Court Week on Nov. 2-6, and winners will be honored in a special ceremony.

Videos with offensive material or that clearly indicate an actor texting while actually driving will be disqualified.
