[ARCHIVED] Community invited to fall planting at Windlands Park this Saturday

With cooler temperatures coming to the Permian Basin, experts say fall is the perfect time to give plants a chance to establish their roots before harsh temperatures and dry conditions create stressful environments.

The City of Midland’s Parks & Recreation Division is inviting the public to a fun and educational event for the whole family on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Windlands Park (1000 W. Dengar Ave.), where participants can help plant a fall landscape with native and adapted plants. Professionals will be in attendance to talk about good planting practices and how to give your landscape the best chance for success.

Each volunteer will also receive a tree through a grant from the Texas A&M Forest Service, so that they can incorporate their new skills at home and plant a new addition in their own landscape. Red yuccas will also be available for volunteers as they will be divided from existing plants.

Participants should bring gloves and a shovel, and wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes.
