[ARCHIVED] MPD offers Halloween safety tips for community

Halloween is just around the corner and the Midland Police Department is providing important tips so you don’t find yourself in a scary situation while celebrating.

As families go trick-or-treating on Saturday, Oct. 31, law enforcement will be busy keeping Midland safe. Here’s how you can help:

- Remind your kids never to go into a stranger’s house while trick-or-treating; children should always be where parents can see them.

- Do not eat opened or unwrapped candy.

- Teach children to look both ways before crossing a street. Kids have a higher risk of being injured by a car on Halloween than any other day of the year.

- If they're old enough to go without an adult, ask your children what route they’ll take and set a curfew.

- Give your children a flashlight or reflector so they are more visible at night.

- Go trick-or-treating in groups.

Citizens interested in finding homes that will be passing out candy in their neighborhoods can log on to Nextdoor.com and select the “Treat Map” in the upper right hand corner after signing into their account.
