The Midland Police Department is alerting citizens to exercise caution when using ATMs at local financial institutions after a suspect's recent, unsuccessful attempt to place card skimmers on Frost Bank ATMs.

The male suspect was captured on surveillance video attempting to place card skimmers on Frost Bank ATMs located at 102 N. Marienfeld Street and 800 W. Wadley Avenue on Nov 6; however, he was unsuccessful. A skimming device is a debit and credit card reader that illegally obtains card holders' information such as their name, card number and personal identification number, or PIN. Two skimming devices were discovered at Frost Bank ATMs in Odessa during this same time period and were reported to the Odessa Police Department.

Citizens are encouraged to check the card entry locations on ATMs for any obvious signs of tampering before inserting a card and to continuously monitor accounts for any unauthorized transactions.
