[ARCHIVED] One dead in Tuesday motorcycle accident

A motorcyclist was declared deceased on the scene of an accident Tuesday afternoon after a fatal collision involving a pickup truck.

Midlander Miguel Angel Brito, 30, was traveling northbound on Lamesa Road via motorcycle when he collided with a southbound pickup truck that was attempting to make a left turn near Garden Lane at approximately 4:45 p.m. Midland police had just attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Brito for reckless driving and followed him for two blocks before deciding not to pursue him due to public safety factors. The collision occurred immediately around the time that the stop was cancelled. Brito was believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.

Brito was declared deceased on scene and the sole occupant of the truck was uninjured. The investigation into the accident continues.
