[ARCHIVED] Local company to begin second round of seismic testing in Midland

Dawson Seismic Testing

Residents of Midland may begin to see contraptions around town again that are used to capture information about rock formations.

Dawson Geophysical acquired a permit from the Midland City Council earlier this month to be able to place data boxes and small cables needed for seismic testing on City right of way in the northern area of Midland. This same work was performed last year within city limits.

Seismic testing is a way to obtain an image of rock formations below the Earth’s surface. It uses reflective technology similar to that of sonar used in mapping the ocean floor, but in this case it maps rock formations.

If this equipment will be placed in your area, you will receive a letter from Dawson Geophysical ahead of time. Employees who represent Dawson will be walking through streets and alleys and will be identified by a reflective vest bearing the company's name. A flag will be placed in the ground to mark where the equipment is.

Seismic surveying is NOT a City of Midland operation. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Dawson Geophysical Headquarters in Midland at 432-684-3000.
