[ARCHIVED] Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle in Midland

A Midland man was declared deceased Friday morning after failing to yield right of way and being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to reports of a vehicle-pedestrian crash at approximately 10:39 p.m. at 1300 E. Front St. Upon arrival, first responders found the pedestrian, 38-year-old Juan Garcia-Suarez, of Midland, with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased around 3:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The investigation into the accident revealed that Suarez was crossing the roadway near the intersection of E. Front Street and N. Tyler Street. He was headed southbound when he failed to yield right of way to an oncoming vehicle traveling eastbound on the inside lane and was struck. This intersection does not have a crosswalk.

It was discovered that Suarez was intoxicated at the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was released. Next of kin has been notified.
