The Midland Police Department is asking the public for any information that could lead to the identification of who stole a Chevrolet 3500 squad truck from Midland Fire Department's Station 6 on Monday evening.
The unit was reported missing during shift change early Tuesday morning and led to a citywide search for the vehicle. Witnesses called the Midland Police Department with tips that led to the discovery of the squad truck after 11 a.m. just east of North Fairgrounds Road near Copus Street. The truck had sustained significant damage.
Squad trucks were introduced to MFD's fleet in 2012 to respond to emergency medical situations, public service calls, natural gas leaks and vehicle excavations in order to increase fire engine reliability.
MPD detectives continue to investigate the incident. Midland Crime Stoppers is offering $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case by calling 432-694-TIPS. Tips will remain anonymous.
