[ARCHIVED] Police identify suspects in aggravated assault case

Midland police have obtained arrest warrants this afternoon for two people suspected of an aggravated assault that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Joe Rangel, 27, and Buddy Garmon, 42, are wanted in connection with the shooting of 29-year-old Anthony Thornberg.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to the 2100 block of South Terrell Street at approximately 2:59 a.m. Tuesday, where they found Thornberg with multiple gunshot wounds. Thornberg was transported with life-threatening injuries to the hospital.

The investigation into the incident revealed that Rangel and Garmon, who knew Thornberg’s landlord, were upset with Thornberg for leaving a window into the residence open for security reasons. Witness statements revealed the suspects entered Thornberg’s room and that Garmon threatened Thornberg with a knife before Rangel pulled out a handgun and shot the victim.

Anyone with information about Garmon or Rangel’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Midland Police Department at 432-685-7108.
