[ARCHIVED] City of Midland announces program application cycle for CDBG funds

Applications from agencies applying for CDBG funding extended through Monday, April 17 at 5 p.m.

The City of Midland's Community Development program has released its schedule for the upcoming fiscal year.

The schedule includes public meetings and hearings, as well as dates for submitting the City's plans to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which provides funding for the Community Development Block Grant program. The allocation for 2017/2018 has not yet been determined, but the City of Midland expects to receive about $661,000 for the upcoming fiscal year. To obtain the CDBG funds, the City must submit an action plan and meet several other requirements.

CDBG funds must be used primarily on programs and projects that benefit low and moderate income individuals. Many types of public service programs are eligible for CDBG funding; however, the City may only allocate 15 percent of the total grant to public services. Other eligible activities include infrastructure improvements, public facilities, housing programs, economic development, and program administration.

Agencies that would like to apply for funding through the CDBG program must have been cleared as an eligible agency by the Community Development office. Assistance in preparing applications will be provided by the office through April 6.
