One person was declared deceased on scene following an accident Monday morning on Garden City Highway in Midland.
Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident at approximately 9:30 a.m. and found the driver of a brown Chevrolet Silverado pickup deceased as the result of an accident with an 18-wheeler pulling a flat bed trailer. The two vehicles were both traveling westbound when the 18-wheeler attempted to make a right turn into a business located in the 1800 block of Garden City Highway from the outside lane. The investigation found that while the truck was turning, the pickup, which was traveling in the inside lane, struck telephone poles that were being carried on the trailer. Two of the poles went through the cab portion of the truck. He was found deceased on scene by first responders and has been identified as Zachary Galindo, 21, of Midland.
Traffic was reduced to one lane eastbound, and all westbound lanes were closed as a result of the accident.
The investigation into the accident continues.
