The Midland Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies will join Midland Park Mall in a multi-agency exercise on Sunday, Feb. 2 that will test their coordinated response to emergency events.
Law enforcement officials and mall staff will be on hand to observe and participate in various drills to determine what they can do to improve a coordinated response to emergency situations, such as an active shooter or bomb threat.
Emergency responders will adapt to mock challenges as they come along during the role-playing scenario. Volunteers and store managers will also play roles in the drill.
Mall hours will not change, as the exercise will take place before the mall opens. Law enforcement officials will be setting a perimeter around the mall for the safety of all involved and ask that the public avoid the area so as not to interfere with the drill. The City of Midland will notify residents and businesses in the area of the mall prior to the exercise.
